Are you ready to be known as an expert?
Do you feel like an expert?
Do you have the confidence to step into the spotlight?
I remember the first time someone called me an expert. A few years back I had a business selling beads and teaching people how to make jewelry. One Sunday morning I was helping one of my customers at my market stall pick out some beads for the necklace she wanted to make. She asked, “You’re the expert so which beads would you use?”
This question took me by surprise. Not because I couldn’t answer her question but because she referred to me as an expert. I certainly didn’t feel like an expert. It had only been 6 months since I started making jewelry and I was self-taught by trial and error with information I got on the internet. That is when I realized that it does not matter if you feel like the expert as long as the people you’re helping feel that you are the expert.
Let’s face it. There will always be someone that knows more than you do, someone who has more experience than you do, someone who you can learn from but you can be that person to someone else if you have the confidence to step into that role.
You are not alone in feeling this way…
You also do not have to be the best to be the most well-known expert in your field.
Let’s take Dr. Phil for example. While he has a Ph.D. in Psychology he no longer holds a valid license to practice psychology, but he gives out advice to millions of people around the world every year. He may not be the best person to help people but he is willing to step into the limelight and be the expert, earning an estimated annual salary of $70 million.
